How many more reports do we need?

A new report by the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman highlights the deficiencies in care for hospital patients at the end of their lives.

A report today by the National Ombudsman has yet again highlighted the deficiencies in care for hospital patients at the end of their lives [1].

There is no need to re-iterate the findings:

  • not recognizing patients are dying,
  • not controlling symptoms properly – especially pain,
  • failing to explain to patients and their families what is happening,
  • not having an adequate out of hours service.

None of this is new.

PATCH is focused unashamedly on supporting hospital care as there is so much to be done.
