On 14th February, the beautiful setting of Melrose Parish Church was filled not only with glorious music but with heartfelt generosity, as the Borders Chamber Orchestra performed its Winter Concert in aid of PATCH. Under the assured direction of Robert Dick, the evening opened brightly with Glinka’s spirited Overture to the Opera “Russian and Lyudmila”.

The programme continued with Rachmaninov’s much-loved Piano Concerto No. 2, performed with sensitivity and power by professional soloist Jill Morton, whose playing captivated the audience. After the interval, Beethoven’s triumphant Symphony No. 5 in C minor brought the concert to a stirring close.

This special Valentine’s concert was a true celebration of community, compassion and musical excellence, raising vital support for PATCH and the charity’s invaluable work in supporting access to, training and research into palliative care services across the Borders and Scotland more broadly.

PATCH Chairman John Rainey commented: “This was a wonderful evening with the most beautiful music and much generosity towards PATCH. We were so grateful to the Borders Chamber Orchestra and organiser Paul Comrie and his colleagues who arranged for our charity to be the beneficiary of the evening.”
