A wonderful concert in aid of PATCH
Francesco Scattolin [on the right] – Orchestra Leader
On 16th April, the Dundee Chamber Orchestra performed in St Paul’s Cathedral Dundee. The newly formed orchestra, created and conducted by Professor Andy Evans, had a brilliant debut.
Andy is principal horn in the Dundee and Perth Symphony Orchestra and also plays in a number of chamber ensembles. In addition he is a prize-winning composer of classical music as well as an experienced conductor. On this occasion, the audience was treated to a family double act – in which Andy’s identical twin brother Simon, also a doctor, played the solo violin in Dvorak Romance for violin and orchestra opus 11.
The orchestra was led by the violinist Francesco Scattolin, who trained in the Italian Conservatoire in Castelfranco in Veneto and has played in some of the most famous theatres in Italy.
It was an orchestra with remarkable talent – with a cast of thirty – an amazing achievement.
The concert was faultless – a programme carefully chosen to include many favourites. There was not a sound or a cough from the audience, one could have heard a pin drop.

One of the joys of a fundraising event is that some attend to support a charity, but would otherwise not come to a classical concert. One gentleman said that “I don’t usually go to this sort of concert but now that I know what I’ve been missing, I have a lot of catching up to do!” Another lady commented that she normally only went to professional concerts but this concert was the best one she had been to.
Over £2000 were raised on the night and donations are still being received.
PATCH are hugely grateful to the orchestra for the huge effort involved in gathering the orchestra together, meeting to practice and putting on such an exceptional programme. We would also like to say a BIG thank you to the people who attended and supported the event.
