Joint PATCH and RCSEd award recognising excellence in palliative care. Launch, applications, and national award announcements over time.
The Dundas Medal is an annual award presented by PATCH alongside the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd) to recognise efforts that improve palliative care for patients in hospital.
RCSEd describes the medal as commemorating Dr Charles Robert (“Bertie”) Dundas, who died in 2014. His widow, Dr Valerie Dundas, made a donation to PATCH to support better palliative care provision in hospitals—helping establish the award.
The medal is open to individuals or teams (medical, nursing, or paramedical) working in any UK hospital. It exists to highlight practical improvements, innovation, and research that make end‑of‑life and serious illness care better for patients and families in busy hospital settings.
